Statement of Rationale
The Higher Education and the Arts Forum,
sponsored by the Mississippi Alliance for Arts Education,
continues the dialogue begun four years ago among arts
educators, higher education personnel, and education
professionals concerning the value of arts education.
The forums have sought to articulate the role the arts can
play in learning and how teachers and classroom teachers
should be trained in the arts to ensure quality and
integrity of the arts experience in the instructional
setting.
As national and regional educational standards include the
arts in the expectations of quality instruction, teacher
education units, educational agencies that license teachers,
and local school administrators must be aware of the needs
and outcomes of teaching the arts or with the arts.
The H.E.+Arts forums serve to raise awareness, provide
opportunity for debate, and become the breeding ground for
new vision in improving education in Mississippi through the
arts. The MAAE hopes to inspire collaboration among all of
these educational entities so that they intersect and
contribute to the quality and success of each of them.
We encourage you to be a
part of the conversation!
