Mississippi’s schools need more arts education! From D’Iberville to Desoto County, and from Natchez to New Albany, our state’s K-12 students are starved for arts learning experiences that could make a difference in what students know and are able to do. We know that there are some school districts that are able to employ certified arts specialists to teach in elementary or secondary arts positions. However, far too many Mississippi students receive an education that does not include any exposure to the arts.

You can help! When you are prepared to work with school district personnel to plan arts education experiences for students, there is hope that more students will have access to an education that includes the arts. In addition, work with schools gives visual and performing artists a new and different audience to serve and a venue to share valuable skills developed over time.

Arts councils, museums, libraries, performing arts centers, colleges, universities, and cultural organizations play a key role in bringing arts education to students in schools. The January 28th workshop will offer sessions designed to strengthen grass-roots community support for arts education. Participants will learn about school/community partnerships that are making a difference in student achievement.
